Halloween Horror on Hollander Hill!
The Scene ~ Graystone Manor on Hollander Hill
The Location ~ Crab Cove, a fishing village off the coast of
Maine and overlooking Englishman Bay
Our Victim ~ Reba Hollander, Author and Publisher Extraordinaire
Aunt Reba Hollander always looked forward to, and thoroughly enjoyed Halloween, her favorite holiday. The old gal traditionally went all out for this dark evening of the macabre by elaborately decorating the manor house and providing unique and delicious goodies for an abundance of trick-or-treaters. Therefore, it was quite heartbreaking when dear old Reba went to meet her Maker on All Hollow's Eve. Sweetie, her Maine Coon cat, and her ever faithful nurse, Colleen Oscopy, faithfully stayed by her side to the bitter end…which brings us to our story.
So what happened? Though torrential rain pounded the roof with fury at Graystone Manor on that fateful night, Aunt Reba's annual Halloween party was in full swing, despite the horrendous weather. The manor house stood high upon a bluff, and had been owned by Aunt Reba for almost fifty years. Some of Reba's guests included her niece, Reena, and Reena's husband, Edwin (NOTE: Edwin was not one of Reba's favorite people). Other guests included Reba's hairdresser, Nanette Perruque; her habitually tardy brother, Louis, a creative cross-dresser; Reba's maid, Monique Lafayette; Sister Mary Martini; and retired Harbor Master and fisherman, Sharky O'Toole, just to name a few.
Tell us more! It wasn't long after the party began that Aunt Reba announced she wasn't feeling very well. She made her apologies and retired to her private drawing room. Shortly, thereafter, a very shaken Nurse Oscopy made the announcement of Reba's passing. Reba's devoted brother, and now grief stricken, Louis Hollander, suddenly appeared at the scene. Dudley, Reba's butler, then received a message from the Crab Cove Family Funeral Home. It seems that that Reba's body had been delivered with a directive for immediate cremation….which had been completed and all charges had been paid. Upon hearing of this, brother Louis was aghast. He cried out, "My sister was adamant regarding her final resting place. She specifically stated that she wanted to be buried in the family plot alongside our dear mother and father. Someone has betrayed her! Why would anyone display such an outrageous act of disrespect?" Nurse Oscopy ran sobbing from the room carrying Sweetie in her arms. Reena fell to her knees and fainted. "Perhaps someone merely wanted to save us all from the pain of planning her farewell, not to mention the expense…and I, for one, am glad it's done," laughed Edwin.
Just as the clock was closing in on midnight a soft voice was heard coming from the vestibule, "Good evening….so sorry to have missed the rest of the Halloween festivities. I just want you all to know that I plan to stay at Graystone until I unfold the mystery….reveal why I was murdered! Yes, it was MURDER!" The ghostly face of Aunt Reba looked about the room and just as the clock struck midnight she smiled, winked at Edwin, then whispered….."Happy Halloween Hollanders."
Who decided on cremation for Aunt Reba? Who was the heartless culprit/s who murdered her? How was it done, and more importantly, why? To learn the answers to these questions, head for Graystone Manor and join the Hollander family and other suspicious "mourners". It's time to grab your trick-or-treat bags and get ready for an evening of mayhem, masquerade and, off course, MURDER!
