Murder in the New Millennium!
As the world gets ready to witness the birth of a new millennium, we find ourselves at the exclusive, private estate of Pearl Davenport on Gull Island, 10 miles off the coast of Maine. Ms. Davenport, reported to be one of the wealthiest women in the world, is hosting her annual and most popular New Year's Eve gala.
The tap of a silver spoon against a crystal champagne glass brings all eyes to Pearl as she is about to make an announcement, "Ladies and Gentlemen, tonight we not only ring out the old year and ring in the new…we will be ringing in the next thousand years of happiness, hope and prosperity. At 11:45 P.M. this evening, I proudly invite you to join me and to witness what, I am certain, will be one of the most memorable moments of my life."
The elegant dinner was enjoyed by all….dancing and gaiety followed….the clock continued to tick…11:00…11:15…11:30…11:45…and no special activity…no unforgettable festivity…and NO PEARL! Tick tock…tick tock…11:55…11:59…the Dom Perignon corks began to fly! Confetti, streamers and hundreds of balloons filled the air. The music started and the bandleader began to sing "Should auld acquaintance be forgot and never brought to mind …should auld acquaintance be forgot and days of auld lang syne!"
Somewhere in the background the traditional countdown began 10 - 9 - 8 - 7 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2- "Wait," cried Nigel Whiteglove, the butler, "STOP THE MUSIC!!!!!!!!"
So what happened? Just prior to the stroke of midnight, Nigel, who has been in service to the Davenports for over 30 years, stormed into the ballroom with shocking news…"The most dreadful thing has happened…the Madame is dead!!"
It appears that Nigel found Pearl's body strewn upon the rocks that lie directly below the family's century old lighthouse…and a torn shred of her satin gown waved in the wind as it was caught on the walk-around railing.
Who would have done in Davenport?…What was the memorable moment to which she referred?…and why was the butler outdoors anyway?
The story will further unfold as eight "suspects" reveal their tales by reading brief excerpts from their private journals, dairies, dossiers, letters or newspaper clippings. These facts may implicate their guilt and pose a motive for wanting poor Pearl out of the picture. In addition, all guests will deliver verbal clues throughout the evening as well as action clues via pantomime. So it's time to join your fellow partiers, Attorney Justin Forall, Nigel Whiteglove (Pearl's butler), Victoria Bloomfield (Pearls' best friend), Festus Marlow (lighthouse keeper), Miss Knob (Pearl's secretary), Salvatori Bossachetti (mobster), Judy Lovelight (bird lover), and Lulu Del Ricco (reporter), just to name a few for an evening of mayhem, masquerade and MURDER!
Happy New Year and Merry Millennium to all!
